New fishing bans proposed

Nearly 44 square miles of coastal waters off San Luis Obispo County would be off-limits to fishermen or have severe fishing restrictions under a plan proposed by the state Department of Fish and Game.

The plan would create no-fishing areas at Piedras Blancas, Cambria, Morro Bay and Point Buchon.

Fishing would be restricted to salmon and albacore in other areas at Piedras Blancas and Point Buchon.
