Irish Marine Minister urges vessel owners to avail of scheme

IRISH Marine Minister John Browne T.D., speaking yesterday at Greencastle Harbour in Donegal, called on vessels owners to consider availing of the second round of the Decommissioning Scheme for whitefish vessels.
This scheme aims to bring about a viable future for the seafood industry by reducing the size of Ireland’s sea fishing fleet to bring it into better balance with the fish stocks available to the fleet. The scheme represents a substantial Government investment to support the sustainable development of the economies of those coastal communities dependent on fishing by improving the sustainability and profitability of Irish vessel owners remaining in the industry long term.
