Petrofac picked for fifth Egypt gas plant

UK and Middle-east based engineering and facilities group Petrofac has landed a deal to develop a fifth gas train in Egypt for Khalda Petroleum under an engineering and procurement services deal which is expected to become a lump-sum EPC contract.

Petrofac has been selected to develop the fifth train at the Salam gas plant in Egypt’s Western Desert region.

And the company has indicated that the contract is expected to become a lump-sum engineering procurement and construction contract within the next four months to take advantage of synergies with existing work Petrofac is already performing on two previous gas trains, WG3 and WG4, at the same installation.

The new plant is due to come onstream in 2010, increasing Khalda’s gas-processing capacity up to 810 MMcf/d.
