Remora registers ice ship deal

Norway’s Remora ASA has won a turnkey deal to develop a new mooring system for an advanced drillship under construction South Korea.

Remora has landed an engineering procurement and construction contract covering phased development of new mooring equipment based on its patented Hiload system which attaches to the side of a vessel, for the new and advanced drillship under construction at Samsung Shipyard in South Korea.

The new Drillmax Ice class ship is being built by Samsung on behalf of Stena Drilling with dynamic positioning and Remora says its new mooring system will allow the Stena unit to operate in water depths between 60 and 300 m (200 – 1,000 ft) and icy seas with the “highest regularity.”
