Bergen Group scoops rig upgrade work

The Bergen Group has won a Letter of Intent (LOI) from Transocean to carry out upgrade work on three rigs and for the possible modification of a fourth.

Bergen will be responsible for upgrade and classification work on the Transocean Searcher, Polar Pioneer and Transocean Arctic, as well as holding an option for similar work on a further drilling rig.

Bergen’s scope of work includes detailed project planning, purchasing, as well as involvement in overall project management.

The work will begin this month and continue until the end of 2009. It will be carried out at Bergen Group`s facilities at Hanøytangen outside Bergen.

“We are very pleased to be able to work with the world`s largest offshore drilling contractor,” says CEO Roger Simmenes in Bergen Group.

“This is a good illustration of the competitive advantages Bergen Group can achieve due to the wide base of resources available to the company within the Offshore segment. We have proven several times that we can complete complex offshore projects at Bergen Group Rosenberg; and now the customers are starting to understand the opportunities Hanøytangen can provide.”
