JNP excels despite difficulties

Throughput at India’s principal gateway, Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP), increased by 11% to 4.3 million teu in 2010, compared with 3.9 million teu handled in 2009. The latest figures confirm that JNP surpassed its pre-recession throughput record of 4.18 million teu handled in 2008. As detailed in the table below, APM Terminal-managed Gateway Terminals India (GTI) (pictured) saw volumes climb by 21.3% to 1.9 million teu, handling 44% of the port’s total throughput. The DP World-managed Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) achieved a near 6% growth to 1.6 million teu.
