Matson takes delivery of fourth ship in $500M replacement program

Matson Navigation Co. took delivery of the MV Maunalei, its newest container ship, and will christen it on July 22 at a Philadelphia shipyard. Oakland-based Matson is owned by Honolulu-based Alexander & Baldwin Inc. The Maunalei is the fourth ship Matson has bought since 2003 in a modernization and replacement program costing $500 million. Before this project, the company added just one new ship to its fleet between 1983 and 2002.
