Lack of consolidation in UK naval shipbuilding sector delaying new orders

A failure to consolidate Britain’s ship and submarine building sectors is holding up orders manufacturers want from the government and may also delay final delivery of the navy’s planned aircraft carriers, a powerful commons committee warned.

The Defence select committee said the delay on the final investment decision to build the the carriers could also leave a ‘capability gap which could both be damaging to the country and expensive to deal with’.
