800 Canadians leave Lebanon on latest evacuation ship

About 800 Canadians sailed from the port of Beirut on Sunday on a ship chartered by Ottawa to help them escape fighting between Israel and Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.

“Canadian officials were hoping to accommodate about 1,200 Canadians who wanted to leave,” CBC correspondent Nahlah Ayed reported from Beirut.

“However, in the end, it looks like just over half have decided to take advantage of the opportunity.”
