Hyundai Mipo Delivers New LPG Carrier 'Sibur Voronezh' (South Korea)

On July 29, 2013 a delivery ceremony of a new LPG carrier to the ship-owner SIBUR VOROVEZH took place at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. Ltd. (Ulsan, the Republic of Korea). The ship is intended for regular year-round carriage of liquefied hydrocarbon gas. It is the first of the two ships being constructed under SOVCOMFLOT’s order and chartered by SIBUR petrochemical holding on conditions of a long-term contract.

The ships are constructed to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) class and the Lloyd’s Register. RS class notation: KM✪ Ice2 [1] AUT1 OMBO LI IGS-NG ECO BWM SPM Gas carrier type 2G (Ice2 at d≥5.7m).

The ships of the series were named after the rivers Voronezh and Tobol running in the activity area of the charterer (SIBUR petrochemical holding). The naming ceremony was held on July, 4, 2013.

SIBUR VORONEZH gas carrier is the first ship constructed under the project approved by the specialists of the RS Design and Newbuilding Support Centre in the Republic of Korea (opened in March 2012) and under their direct surveillance. The vessel’s cargo system structure incorporates four “C” type independent tanks, with a total capacity of 20 600 cub. m, intended for carriage of cargo under the pressure of 540 kPa. Ballast water treatment system is also provided on board the ships.

The availability of Ice2 ice strengthening will ensure these ships to be effectively operated in the low temperature conditions of the Baltic Sea during winter navigation period. SIBUR VORONEZH and SIBUR TOBOL will be engaged in the carriage of LPG in the commercial seaport of Ust-Luga.
