Ichthys LNG, Prelude FLNG projects tied to Vocus communications system

Australian telecommunications specialist, Vocus, has connected the Inpex-operated Ichthys LNG project and Shell’s Prelude FLNG facility off Western Australia to its fiber-optic North-West Cable System.

The North-West Cable System (NWCS), recently constructed by Vocus in partnership with Shell and INPEX, comprises 2100km of subsea cable, between Darwin to Port Hedland.

The NWCS has been designed to enable high-speed data connections to other key hydrocarbon prospects along the cable route.

Louis Bon, managing director Ichthys project, said the communications system will benefit not only the Ichthys LNG project but also the Northern Territory and Western Australia communities.

David Bird, VP Prelude added that the communications system will improve the collaboration of Shell’s onshore and offshore teams during the commissioning and operation of the Prelude FLNG facility.
