Ichthys topsides integration moving forward

The topsides integration phase for the Ichthys LNG project’s central processing facility (CPF) is progressing well at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea.

On Saturday 27 June, the Inpex-operated project celebrated the lifting of a 6400 tonne module which incorporates the CPF’s main electrical and instrumentation rooms.

The lift was executed by two synchronised cranes operating in tandem. The 62 metre-long, 46 metre-wide module was the seventh of eight modules required to complete the CPF topsides, Inpex said on Wednesday.

The CPF is scheduled to be launched from the floating dock in the coming months, Inpex added.

Once complete, the CPF will be towed 5600 kilometres to the Ichthys field in the Browse Basin, offshore Western Australia, where it be moored permanently to the seabed for the life of the $US34 billion LNG project.

Gas and some condensate from the CPF will be sent through an 889 kilometre pipeline to the project’s onshore LNG facilities in Darwin.
