Increased Oil Recovery solutions to be presented at ITF event

ITF, the organisation driving collaborative oil and gas technology development in the UK, Oil & Gas UK and the UK’s innovation agency, the Technology Strategy Board, are offering developers the opportunity to present their technological solutions to enhance oil and gas production at the ITF Technology Showcase 2014 tomorrow (5th March) at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.

Specifically, within the conference programme, the event will feature nine projects whose ideas have earned a share of the £1 million fund the Technology Strategy Board has made available for innovative feasibility studies. These projects will be the focus of a series of quick-fire presentations outlining new technological solutions.

Energy is a priority area for the Technology Strategy Board and it has been working with ITF and Oil & Gas UK to help UK businesses address the triple challenge of energy security, affordability and sustainability, and to benefit from the changes the world will have to make to its energy system in reducing carbon emissions.

Liz Flint, Lead Technologist for the Technology Strategy Board said: “We’re really excited to be able to offer these nine developers the opportunity to present their projects at the Technology Showcase and to tell operators and other developers about their great solutions. We aim to stimulate innovation and accelerate the development and deployment of new technologies likely to enhance production and asset reliability within the oil and gas sector.

“These projects can ultimately help retain, anchor and develop the oil and gas supply chain in the UK to deliver sustainable jobs and economic growth in the long term, against increasing competition from other regions. It is expected that the projects will, through further development, be able to deliver cost reduction and efficiency improvements while contributing to environmental sustainability in the sector.”

A host of senior representatives from operators and major service companies including BP, Chevron, CNR International, GE Oil & Gas, Shell UK, Statoil, Total E&P UK Limited and TAQA will give their views on key industry issues in a series of presentations.

The conference programme includes four key focus areas:

· Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)

· Digital Monitoring for Production Efficiency and Integrity

· Increased Oil Recovery (IOR)

· Advanced Materials and Corrosion.

Dr Patrick O’Brien, CEO of ITF said: “To have the support of the Technology Strategy Board is a great addition to the Technology Showcase. Innovation is crucial for the industry, but without backing it can be too high risk for many small and medium-sized businesses to undertake.

“This is an ideal opportunity for developers to demonstrate their work and I hope to see them in discussion with potential customers and collaborators throughout the day.”
