India: GAIL Imports Sixteen LNG Cargoes

GAIL Imports Sixteen LNG Cargoes

State-run gas company GAIL India, imported sixteen cargoes of liquefied natural gas during the current fiscal year, significantly higher than the last fiscal when the company imported four cargoes, Business Line reported.

Gas output from RIL’s D6 block in the Krishna Godavari basin in the Bay of Bengal has fallen sharply, forcing India’s companies to turn to imports of liquefied natural gas.

GAIL has in December entered into a LNG sale and purchase agreement with Cheniere Energy of USA, under which it has agreed to purchase approximately 3.5 mtpa of LNG from Sabine Pass train four.
