Shell Eyes Stake in Kakinada LNG Project

LNG player Shell is likely to take a 30 percent stake in GAIL India’s proposed FLNG import project at Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, according to local media reports.

Shell, GAIL and the Andhra Pradesh government are talking about the possible equity structure, the Press Trust of India reported.

GDF Suez of France, with whom GAIL originally planned the Kakinada LNG terminal, will take 26 percent. Rest 44 percent will be held by Andhra Pradesh Gas Distribution Corp, a company jointly promoted by GAIL Gas and Andhra Pradesh Gas Infrastructure Corp.

The LNG import terminal would have a 3.5-5 mtpa capacity and is likely to be commissioned by 2015.
