Indian Coast Guard Rescues 22 Sailors from Sinking Ship

Indian Coast Guard saved 22 crew members from a sinking cargo ship, off the Mangalore coast, Indian news portals reported.

MV Asian Express experienced engine problems on June 10 while on its route to Maldives, causing the ship to take in water and start sinking.

The vessel was adrift for two days and sent a distress signal in the morning of June 12.

An Indian Naval Ship passed on the information about the accident and ICGS Varuna was able to react first and come to the rescue of crew, because it was patrolling off Mangalore shore.

At this moment, Asian Express is located near Minicoy Island and it is still flooding.
