Indonesia: Jakarta’s Governor Inaugurates Seribu Island Underwater Electricity Cable

The underwater electricity cable for six islands in Seribu Island, Harapan, Pramuka, Panggang, Kelapa, Kelapa Dua, and Karya, has been set by the Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo.

At the inauguration ceremony in Panggang Island, Governor Fauzi said that he hopes the residents will be able to use the electricity in full.

„This was my promise to Seribu Island residents to provide electricity for 24 hours. We should use this well and not to waste it, yet residents also should pay the electricity fee,“ said Fauzi.

According to the Governor, this should give an opportunity for the residents to grow small businesses and provide more job opportunities.

The electricity quality is the same in the land because it takes from system of inter-connection Java-Bali.

“The installation is special because its budget equated with tariff in 2003,” said Dwi Kusnanto, Manager of Niaga Section for PT PLN Distribusi Jakarta and Tangerang.
