Indonesian Pertamina Gas Selects Telvent Technology for National Pipeline Networks Management

Telvent will supply integrated data acquisition and advanced natural gas administration applications to Pertamina for its pipeline network Gas Management System. The new real-time critical infrastructure system will improve security, operational efficiency and provide additional expansion capacity and revenue potential for the operator.

Under the new contract, Telvent supervisory control and data acquisition (OASyS SCADA) system and advanced Gas Suite applications will be deployed at the Jakarta Headquarters and five local pipeline Area Control Centers serving North Sumatra (SBU), South Sumatra (SBS), West Java (JBB), Kalimantan (KAL) and South Sumatra (JBT).

The new OASyS information management infrastructure installed at these centers will combine real-time and historical measurement data to yield comprehensive, timely measurement, quality, and accounting information. The Gas Management System will be vital in helping Pertamina meet optimization goals for its pipeline networks operations, receipt and delivery operations and improve overall business performance.

Telvent CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez, emphasized the significance of this contract award. “The extensive and wide-ranging nature of this project suggests that opportunities in the energy market in Asia are growing continually. We are pleased Pertamina will rely on Telvent solutions to integrate data collection and gas pipeline management and operation for its gas pipeline networks as local regulatory changes continue to effect business needs. Moreover, we are pleased and proud that this award represents the beginning of the long-term relationship between Telvent and Pertamina.”

PT Pertamina Gas Director of Operations, Gusti Azis, related how regulatory changes in oil and gas fields in Indonesia have impacted operations and his expectation for the new gas management and monitoring systems. “Since 2002, regulatory changes have resulted in separation between upstream and downstream business sectors. Downstream transmission and distribution of gas production, which had been a part of the upstream sector, is now implemented as an open access system so that existing infrastructure can also be used by the downstream sector. This project will help to smooth commercial operation and monitoring for gas transmission and distribution across both upstream and downstream sectors.”

The new contract reinforces Telvent’s leadership position in the supply and implementation of integrated SCADA, operations and business solutions for the natural gas industry. PetroChina Company Limited, the largest oil and gas producer and distributor in China, recently extended its hydrocarbon network control system based on Telvent’s OASyS SCADA to help sustain the company’s safe and secure energy supply to growing Chinese markets. Other projects recently entrusted to Telvent include the new Sichuan-East Gas pipeline extension for Sinopec, the second largest oil and gas operator in China, and the GD-LNG Terminal and Trunkline project for the Guangdong Dapeng LNG Company Ltd.
