Industry majors join forces on Pakistan FSRU project

Höegh LNG, together with Qatar Petroleum, Total, Mitsubishi and ExxonMobil formed a consortium to advance an LNG import project in Pakistan. 

The consortium, in cooperation with Global Energy Infrastructure Limited (GEIL), aims to develop a project that includes an FSRU, a jetty and a pipeline to shore to provide a timely and reliable natural gas supply to Pakistan.

The FSRU will have a minimum regasification capacity of 750 million cubic feet per day by 2018.

In December 2016, Höegh LNG signed a 20-year FSRU charter contract with GEIL, with an extension option for another five years.

The construction of the terminal is planned to commence early 2017 and expected start-up is the second quarter of 2018.

The initial period for the GEIL charter would be covered by an interim FSRU from Höegh LNG’s portfolio, the company said in December following the shipbuilding contract it signed with Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Höegh LNG then said the FSRU will have a storage capacity of 170,000 cubic meters and a max regasification capacity of 1,000 MMscf/day with full trading capabilities.
