Opting for a job at sea may turn out to be rewarding at times as it offers the opportunity to venture out into the open seas and get to know the world. However, seafaring is not an easy task as seamen face various challenges on daily basis, including various types of incidents at sea that require bravery and skill to overcome.

To give you an idea of what those challenges are, this week’s infographic summarizes the total number of the highest occurring shipping related incidents so far this year. Until now, there were 33 groundings and 12 collisions recorded worldwide. As shown in the infographic, the said incidents proved fatalin twelve instances as 12 deaths were reported on board during the said period.

The most recent incidents reported by World Maritime News include grounding of a Singapore-flagged bulker MV Alam Manis and collision between two cargo vessels off China’s Port of Zhoushan that resulted in the sinking of the 2008-built Heng Run.
