Inocean Completes Modification Work on BW Athena at Yard in Dubai, UAE

BW Athena has been re-floated after being extended by 65 feet and equipped with a turret docking system at the yard in Dubai.

At the end of June 2011 engineering and modification work to extend the vessel by 65 feet and install a turret docking system was completed. Inocean has been working on BW Athena since April 2010, right after BW Offshore, Inocean’s client, signed a letter of intention for the FPSO BW Carmen with Ithaca Energy for work at the Athena field in the North Sea.

Inserted new section

Inoceans main scope of work has been engineering related to hull extension, inclusion of the turret, increased storage, support of new cranes and topsides and green sea protection. The lengthening of the ship was done by inserting a complete new section in the fore part of the cargo area. The FPSO has now left dry dock in Dubai for further topside modifications and equipment installation at dockside.

22,000 barrels of oil per day

The Athena field is situated in block 14/18b in the Outer Moray Firth area of the UKCS, lying approximately 18 kilometers west of the Claymore and Scapa fields and the associated production facilities. According to Ithaca Energy, the field has been evaluated to contain 2P reserves (gross) of 24.4 million barrels of oil. The initial rate from the field is anticipated to be approximately 22,000 barrels of oil per day gross (4,950 net to Ithaca) with first production targeted for Q4 2011.
