International Convention on BWM at Top of Agenda

The BLG Sub-Committee now recommends that the Marine Environment Protection Committee amends the provisions on sampling so that it is no longer possible to detain ships on the basis of a sample.

This recommendation is made to ensure that ships are not detained wrongfully until a safe sampling method has been developed. This is considered a great step forward towards entry into force since this has, for long, been the reason why a number of countries have not ratified the Convention.
