Iran Plans to Build Oceangoing Research Vessel

Iran plans to construct an oceangoing research vessel in the next six months, Managing Director of the Iranian National Institute for Oceanography (INIO) Vahid Chegini told Fars News Agency.

According to Mr. Chegini the Iranian experts are in the process of designing, building and equipping the oceangoing research vessel which will also be supplied with equipment to be able to carry out research missions in seas and the oceans.

The vessel is expected to be completed by the end of spring.

In August Mr. Chegini stated that the country is constructing a research vessel to be deployed on missions in the South Pole.

He also said that Iran plans to set up a base in the Antarctic.
