Iran to Become Second Top Gas Storage Facility Holder in Middle East

Iran will become the second country in the Middle East in terms of gas storage capacities with the implementation of a gas storage facility this year, a top official said.

“Iran will become one of five main countries in the world and second in the Middle East with underground facilities for natural gas storage,” Managing Director of Natural Gas Storage Company (NGSC) Massoud Samivand said, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

He underlined that Shourijeh gas storage facility will come on stream in the Northeastern province of North Khorasan in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2014). Samivand said that NGSC has also built another gas storage facility in Sarajeh in the central city of Qom.

“Sarajeh fed 9 to 10 million cubic meters of natural gas per day to national gas network during the last winter,” he said, adding that Shourijeh will add 20 MMcm to Iran’s natural gas storage capacity.
