Italian Flagged Carrier MV Rosalia D’Amato Released from Pirate Control

 

On 27 November it was confirmed that M/V ROSALIA D’AMATO was released from pirate control and is now en route to Oman.

The 74,500 tonne Bulk Carrier, Italian flagged and owned, was pirated on the 21 April 2011 approximately 350NM South East of Salalah, Oman. She was on its way from Paranagua (Brazil) to Bandar Imam Khomeini (Iran) when it was attacked by a pirate skiff. M/V ROSALIA D’AMATO has a crew of 21 (6 Italians, 15 Filipinos).

EU NAVFOR conducts counter-piracy in the Indian Ocean and is responsible for the protection of World Food Program ships carrying humanitarian aid for the people of Somalia and the logistic support vessels of the African Union troops conducting Peace Support Operations in Somalia. Additionally, EU NAVFOR monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
