Norway’s Eidesvik Offshore will see Viking Princess, its LNG-fueled offshore supply vessel, return early from its deployment for Ithaca Oil and Gas.

The vessel, the first-ever offshore supply vessel in which batteries reduce the number of generators aboard the ship, was serving a one-year deal with Ithaca Oil and Gas. The deal was set to expire in early January 2021.

However, in its notice Eidesvik said that Viking Princess will be redelivered to the company at the end of April.

The decision to return the vessel early was impacted by the current market situation.

Viking Princess runs on a combination of a battery pack for energy storage and three LNG-fueled Wärtsilä engines.
