Japan: Accumulated 80 Million BHP Achieved by Mitsui-MAN B&W Engine
Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) has achieved the accumulated production of 80 million horsepowers by a single model engine. This record is established when MES completed the construction of Mitsui-MAN B&W diesel engine 7S65ME-C at its Tamano Works (Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture) for Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., who will install such engine to a 180,000 dwt bulk carrier now under construction to her owner Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd.
This engine marks the 50th electronically controlled engine (ME engine) built by MES.
Only after two years and five months since MES reached an accumulated 70 million horse power production in June 2010, it added 10 million horse powers and has achieved 80 million of accumulated horse power since it produced the first engine in 1928. The annual production in the fiscal year of 2012 is expected to be about 4 million horse powers.
Since the technical agreement with B&W, Denmark (presently MAN Diesel & Turbo) in 1926 on the production of diesel engine, MES has been producing engines with excellent records as a leading engine manufacturer of the world.
This year MES confirmed that its world first built-in type Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system satisfied the 3rd regulation of NOx emission using the world largest class test diesel engine (4S50ME-T) installed in its Tamano Works.
Furthermore, MES’s technological research and development toward the next-generation engine and countermeasure to an environment are fully underway, and MES is expanding its facility in the diesel engine factory to have a demonstration trial of Electronically Controlled Gas Injection Diesel Engine (ME-GI) expected to be held in the spring of 2013.
