Japan: NYK Completes Winter Safety Campaign

Japan - NYK Completes Winter Safety Campaign

The NYK Group has completed its winter Sail on Safety campaign, which ran from December 1, 2011, through January 31, 2012.

NYK carries out the campaign every year as part of its proactive measures to prevent accidents that are more likely to occur due to the turbulent seas that are more common during the winter months.

The NYK Group has continued to focus on safe ship operations and environmental activities by sharing with related parties throughout the year an understanding of risks to vessels. However, the number of marine troubles increases in turbulent seas in winter, so this safety campaign is held every winter to warn related parties of potential risks.

During this campaign, a total of 329 NYK Group members, including NYK executives, visited a total of 224 vessels to deepen communication between onboard crew and onshore staff by sharing current information about each vessel and exchanging opinions about safe ship operations. During the visit, the NYK booklet “Into the Safety Zone (Awareness to Avoid Accidents)” was used to stimulate safety-related discussions among crew members and ship operators. The visits also promoted mutual understanding between onboard crew and onshore staff, and brought so many within the NYK Group together in a united effort to increase safety awareness.

The NYK Group will continue to strengthen its activities in the promotion of safety by reconfirming the basic notions of safe operations through safety campaigns.
