Japan power companies boost LNG use in December

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) use by Japan’s power companies rose by 7.7 percent in December, as compared to the same month a year ago, the preliminary data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry shows.

The power companies consumed 5.20 million tonnes of LNG in December as compared to 4.83 million tonnes recorded in the same month last year.

When compared to the month before, LNG usage by the power companies increased 21.9 percent.

LNG purchases by the power companies in December were at 5.07 million tonnes – showing a decline of 0.9 percent on year and an increase of 8.1 percent as compared to the previous month, the data shows.
