Japan: power utilities use less LNG in March

LNG use by Japan’s ten independent regional electric power companies dropped by 3.9 percent in March, as compared to the same month a year ago.

The power utilities consumed 4.43 million mt of LNG in March,  according to the data from the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan (FEPC).

March purchases by the ten utilities were at 4.95 million mt of LNG, down 2.6 percent from 2015.

Total electricity generated and purchased across the ten companies in March declined by 3.4 percent to 73.74 billion kWh, due to decreased heating demands caused by relatively higher temperatures in March than the previous year, FEPC said.
