Japan: utilities’ LNG use declines in April

LNG use by Japan’s ten independent regional electric power companies dropped 5.9 percent in April, as compared to the same month a year before.

The companies consumed 3.57 million mt of the chilled gas in April, according to data from the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan (FEPC).

The 10 utilities bought 4.32 million mt of LNG in April, down 7.5 percent from April last year.

Total electricity generated and purchased across the ten companies in April declined by 1.6 percent from a year earlier to 66.68 billion kWh, due principally to decreased heating demands caused by relatively higher temperatures in April than the previous year, FEPC said.
