Japanese Freighter Catches Fire in South Korea Port

The 1991-built, 7050 dwt general cargo ship Fortune Ace caught fire yesterday while docked at Pyeongtaek port, South Korea, Asia Today reports.

The Panama-flagged ship arrived to Pyeongtaek from Hong Kong and was reportedly carrying a cargo of coconut by-products. Local fire department managed to contain and put out the fire.

South Korean Coast Guard is on scene to investigate the cause of the accident. The freighter is managed by Japan’s Shin-Un Kisen KK.

No injuries or oil pollution has been reported so far.
