JERA considering LNG collaboration with EDF Trading

Japan’s JERA, a joint venture between Chubu Electric and Tepco has entered negotiations with EDF Trading, the London-based trading arm of France’s EDF, to collaborate on LNG.

“JERA is considering wide range of collaboration on LNG with EDF Trading,” a spokesperson Ryo Tanikawa told LNG World News.

However, the company declined to disclose any details of the negotiations.

It would not be the first deal between the two companies, as JERA, one of the world’s largest LNG buyers, has already agreed to sell about 1.5 million mt of liquefied natural gas to EDF Trading at European LNG terminals for a two and a half year period starting in June 2018.

Commenting on that deal signed last year, the company said it provides flexibility to respond to the LNG demand fluctuation and to expand its LNG trading business opportunities.

At the end of last year, JERA acquired EDF’s coal and freight trading business making JERA’s unit, Jera Trading, one of the largest coal traders globally.
