Jiangnan Shipyard to Build Two VLGCs for Southwest Maritime

Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. and Hong Kong-based Southwest Maritime Ltd., a subsidiary of Wideshine Enterprises, signed construction contracts for two 83,000 m3 very large gas carriers (VLGCs).

With this order, Jiangnan Shipyard, currently undergoing restructuring, has pushed toward consolidation of its position in the domestic VLGC market and targets greater presence in the international market.

The vessels feature a length of 226 m, width of 36.6 m, depth of 22.2 m, 11.4 m in draft design, and are classed by the Lloyd’s Register of Shipping (LR).

Under the contract, the first vessel is expected to be delivered by the end of 2015, whereas the second should join Southwest Maritime’s fleet in the beginning of 2016.
