Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) and Ministry of Oil and Gas of Oman, the LNG supplier to Japan, extended the memorandum of understanding for technical corporation signed in January 2014.

Under the extended MoU, the two parties intend on discussing cooperation on countering “technical challenges faced in Oman including reduction of flaring gas and produced water treatment.”

Planned activities include a technical workshop in Muscat in order to discuss technical details with Oman’s oil and gas industry experts for possible solutions.

Oman’s LNG export terminal with a 10.4 mtpa production capacity is located in Qalhat near Sur, and according to JOGMEC, the location of Oman’s terminals means “that undisrupted shipment can be secured in case of emergency situations in the Middle East.”

In addition, the two parties gave agreed a three-year extension for the joint technological studies including evaluation and application of Japanese technologies to provide solutions for challenges in exploration, development and production of oil and natural gas.
