Jordan Cove LNG export start date reset by DoE

The United States Department of Energy has granted Jordan Cove LNG’s request to amend the start date of the liquefied natural gas exports permit from the facility in Coos Bay to free trade agreement countries.

The initial permit allowed Jordan Cove LNG to export up to nine million tons per year, equivalent to 438 billion cubic feet per year starting on December 7, 2021.

However, following design changes, Jordan Cove LNG, filed a request in September last year seeking permit to build a facility with a 7.8 mtpa production capacity. Subsequently, it requested DOE modify the FTA permit, decreasing the approved export volume to 395 Bcf/year to conform to the facilities proposed in the pending FERC application.

It also requested the date by which the project must begin LNG export to FTA countries be re-set as the exports from the terminal are not expected to commence until the first half of 2024.

DoE said in its order that it has granted a permit to Jordan Cove LNG to export up to 395 Bcf/year of natural gas for a 30-year period starting on July 20, 2024.

The project is being developed by Pembina, the Canadian energy infrastructure company, is expecting to reach a final investment decision on the project in November this year.
