Kalmar to Automatize Melbourne VICT Terminal Operations
Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has won a contract to provide an integrated automation system to handle operations at Victoria International Container Terminal’s (VICT) new terminal in Melbourne, Australia.
Kalmar will deliver the control systems of automatic stacking cranes (ASCs) and AutoShuttles, and terminal logistic system (TLS) as well as for the integration of the system components and terminal operating system (TOS). The value of this new automation contract is approximately EUR 15 million (USD 17.3m).
The contract follows an order for 12 ASCs and 11 AutoShuttles received in September 2014. Furthermore, the TOS will be provided by Navis, part of Cargotec.
At VICT’s new terminal at Webb Dock, the system will integrate Kalmar ASCs and AutoShuttles, access control, ship-to-shore crane interface and safety and fault monitoring systems. The project includes virtual simulation as well as testing of the components with live equipment at the Kalmar Technology and Competence Centre in Tampere, Finland.
Olli Isotalo, President of Kalmar, said: “We believe that the ability to integrate and link several components into a one seamless process brings true value to the customer. As a system integrator, we will provide our customer with a solution, all the way from the TOS, TLS automation, software, equipment, services and consulting to the integration services that bring an automated terminal together. An important part of the project will be the emulation software enabling the customer to test their system before the actual equipment delivery.”
