Konecranes to Supply Cranes to Russian Shipyard

Konecranes said it has recently received an order for the supply of 15 industrial cranes to the Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex in the town of Bolshoi Kamen in Russian Far East. The cranes, which are mainly CXT and SMARTON® cranes, will be delivered during 2014-2015.

The Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex is one of the most advanced shipyards being built in Russia. When completed, the Shipbuilding Complex will be able to build tankers, LNG carriers, ice class vessels, specialized vessels, and offshore platform units.

We are proud to be chosen as the supplier to the Zvezda project, it will further strengthen our position in Russia. The deal is a result of good commitment from Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex and Konecranes,” says Markku Saarinen, Vice President and Head of Industrial Crane Products in Europe.

Depending on the usage of the different cranes, they are equipped with various smart features like sway-control, hoisting synchronization and hook leveling. Their lifting capacities range between 12.5-120 tons and they will be delivered to the first phase of the project, i.e. the hull fabrication workshop. The cranes will be used for handling and moving different types of hull parts between production lines.

SMARTON®’s intelligent, yet easy-to-use Human Interface to Machine (HIM) system keeps the user continuously up to date on not only the weight of the load but also its position relative to the available workspace. In addition, the crane monitors its own condition and recommends when and what kinds of inspection or preventive maintenance should be performed.
