KOTUG – First Assistance of ‘Maersk Laguna’ in Jade-Weser-Port (Germany)

KOTUG Performs First Assistance of 'Maersk Laguna' in Jade-Weser-Port (Germany)

Friday September 21st, 2012 the new “JadeWeserPort”–Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven has been commissioned. During the official Opening Ceremony, in the presence of 1400 guests, KOTUG´s RotorTugs RT Innovation and RT Pioneer performed symbolically the first assistance of the container vessel “Maersk Laguna” into Germany’s only deep water port.

The “JadeWeserPort” – Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven (CTW) in Wilhelmshaven will be Germany’s third largest container port at the German North Sea coast. The rise in the number of containers being transported, and in particular the increasing size of the container ships (currently: 18,000 TEU) must be catered to with suitable port structures. Wilhelmshaven is optimally located . The “JadeWeserPort” – Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven (CTW) with its short navigable channel of only 23 nautical miles can handle fully loaded container ships up to 430 m length, 58 m width and draughts of 16.5 m, at any time independent of the tide. The 1,725 meter long riverside quay can simultaneously handle large container ships and feeder ships. CTWt expects more than 30 container vessels until end of 2012.

Earlier this year KOTUG was awarded a 6 years towage concession for Germany’s new deep sea Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven (CTW). In the European Tender bidding process to render Towage services at CTW, KOTUG could persuade JadeWeserPort Realisierungsgesellschaft (the owners of the Container Terminal) about its capabilities and experience as a professional Tugboat Company, its dedicated crew and powerful, maneuverable RotorTugs. KOTUG is very glad to be in a position to comply with its clients request to extend to offer their competitive towage services next to Rotterdam, Hamburg and Bremerhaven to Wilhelmshaven as well.
