KrisEnergy working to resolve Wassana field issues

KrisEnergy, an exploration and production company focused on operations in Asia, increased its production in the second quarter of 2016 to 16.611 boepd.

This is an increase of 119 pct when compared to the same period of 2015, boosted by the contribution from Nong Yao and Wassana oil fields in the Gulf of Thailand.

However, in a statement on Sunday, the company revealed its production might suffer. Actually, it already is, as the company is having problems with production from the Wassana field.

KrisEnergy’s CEO said: “Unfortunately, we are experiencing issues with five of our wells in the Wassana field which has resulted in a partial loss of production. We are currently carrying out a number of activities to definitively determine the cause of the production loss.”

He said the works to determine the source of the problems were ongoing, but initial results suggest that the problem is more likely to be mechanical than a reservoir issue and “we expect to have a solution in the near future.”

To remind, production from the Wassana oil field in the G10/48 concession in the Gulf of Thailand started almost exactly a year ago, on August 14, 2015.

The Wassana infrastructure comprises a mobile offshore production unit (MOPU), the MOPU Ingenium, a mooring buoy and the Rubicon Vantage floating storage offloading vessel.

In its update on Sunday, KrisEnergy said production at the four other fields – B8/32, B9A and Nong Yao in the Gulf of Thailand and the Bangora gas field in Block 9 onshore Bangladesh – outpaced expectations in the first half of the year. Production in B8/32 and B9A has significantly benefitted from wireline zonal completions as well as seven infill wells drilled in the second quarter, the company said.
