Lake Erie Dredged Material Program up for Discussion

The Ohio Lake Erie Commission (OLEC) will hold its quarterly meeting today, December 13, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources in Columbus.

During the meeting, the commission will act on three recommended Lake Erie Protection Fund grant project proposals, hear updates on the Lake Erie Lakewide Action and Management Plan, Ohio’s Domestic Action Plan and the Lake Erie Dredged Material Program. The commission also will discuss matters coming up in 2018.

All OLEC meetings are open to the public and include reports from the member state agencies and advisory committees, followed by a public comment period.

OLEC was established to preserve Lake Erie’s natural resources, protect the quality of its waters and ecosystem and promote economic development in the region. The director of Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Ohio EPA) serves as the commission’s chairman. Additional members include the directors of the state departments of Transportation, Health, Development Services, Agriculture, Natural Resources and five additional members appointed by Governor John Kasich.
