Lebanon to Join LNG Importers Club

Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water announced invitation for expression of interest in construction and operation of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), the state-run National News Agency informed on Thursday.

Based on the tender documentation the FSRU should have up to 3.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) capacity.  Accordingly the Ministry said that it will consider proposals for project implementation that include existing FSRUs, along with refitting of existing vessels in addition to proposals aimed at assembling new ones.

The deadline for submitting applications is June 4. The winner company to get the contract should be known by the first quarter of 2013 in order to be ready to start realizing the project in 2015.

It is said that the Ministry would be in charge of the import of LNG. Furthermore, it will head the activities to be undertaken in order to connect FSRU through high pressure pipeline to the shore, along with probable construction of an additional breakwater.
