The 6.8-metre, slow-running, four-bladed Kappel fixed-pitch propellers will be tailored to the SDARI-designed bulk carriers and a drivetrain powered by a MAN B&W 5S60ME-C engine, economy-rated at 8,050 kW and 89 r/min.

The new Lemissoler vessels will be characterised by a green operational profile that delivers an optimised fuel consumption and minimal emissions.

Thomas Leander, Senior Manager of Propeller & Aft Ship, MAN Diesel & Turbo said: “The cooperation and optimisation process with the owners and SDARI (Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute) has been excellent, especially in terms of developing the fully optimised main-engine, propeller, shafting and aft-ship layout.

Furthermore, this Kappel order gives MAN Alpha propellers a strong foothold within the medium- to large-sized bulker segment.”

The eight vessels will be built by New Times Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. of the New Century Shipbuilding Group, Jiangsu Province, China.

The first four newbuilds will be classified by Germanischer Lloyd (GL) and the remaining ones by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
