LiDAR to Replace Arklow Bank Met Mast

Fugro is set to replace the meteorological mast at the Arklow Bank offshore wind project in Ireland with a LiDAR as part of maintenance work.

Fugro will use the jack-up barge Aran 250 to conduct the work on the northern end of the project between 23 and 30 September, subject to weather conditions.

Offshore works include removing the 30m mast and replacing with a compact LiDAR unit, as well as strengthening of the monopile foundation and replacement of external steel furniture for further wind measurement.

The jack-up barge will be mobilized and demobilized at the Northern Quay in Arklow Harbour, from where it will load and unload project equipment.

SSE co-developed the 7-turbine 25MW Arklow Bank Phase 1 with GE Energy in 2004 as a demonstrator project to prove the opportunity that offshore wind energy could represent for Ireland. The company is now developing the 520MW Arklow Bank project.
