Liebherr to Supply Offshore Cranes for Cygnus Development (UK)

Austria’s Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH, has received an order to provide four offshore cranes of the type RL 2650-25 D EX Litronic® to GDF SUEZ E&P UK for the Cygnus gas field project, situated in the southern North Sea.

The Cygnus gas field is the largest to be discovered within the last 25 years in the Southern basin and is operated by GDF SUEZ. The four offshore cranes will be built in the Liebherr production facility in Sunderland, UK.

GDF SUEZ  with partners Centrica and Bayerngas in August this year announced sanctioning of the £1.4 billion ( $2.18 billion) Cygnus project to develop the sixth largest gas field in the UK Southern North Sea. GDF SUEZ (38.75%) will operate the field with partners Centrica (48.75%) and Bayerngas (12.5%).

Production is expected to start in late 2015. The field is expected to meet demand for nearly one and a half million homes at peak production, accounting for around 5% of the UK’s gas production.
