Lindenau Werft Revamps FS Poseidon

The multipurpose research vessel “Poseidon” underwent an overhaul at German yard Lindenau Werft GmbH from 13 December 2013 to 12 January 2014.

The ship is operated by the GEOMAR Helmholtz-Centre in Kiel.

Lindenau obtained the ship-repair order from the shipping company Briese Schifffahrts GmbH & Co. KG,  research shipping department, on 6 November 2013. The fleet of Briese presently consists of 130 multi-purpose and heavy cargo ships with a deadweight between 2,500 and 37,300 t.

Due to the their high ice-class (Finnish/Swedish 1A) and heavy load cranes of up to 700 t as well as their large cargo spaces and intermediate decks, the ships can be operated in nearly all areas of shipping.

The sailing schedule in 2013 included destinations like the Atlantic Ocean, the Azores, the Norwegian Sea or the Mediterranean among others.

The dimensions of the “Poseidon” are as follows:
