Lithuanian Foreign Minister Welcomes Liberalization of U.S. LNG Exports

On the last day of the visit to the United States, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs Ed Royce.

“During the conversation, the officials discussed the threat posed by Russia’s aggressive actions in Ukraine to regional security, as well as challenges to energy security. E. Royce briefed the Lithuanian Foreign Minister that the House Energy and Commerce Committee had approved the law on liberalization of LNG exports right before their meeting. The bill is put on a calendar to be voted on by the U.S. House of Representatives in the short run,” a statement said.

L. Linkevičius noted that a positive decision of the U.S. Congress on liberalization of LNG exports was especially important for Lithuania and other countries in Central and Eastern Europe, which sought to diversify their energy resources as much as possible, reducing dependence on one supplier of energy.
