Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) completed the first LNG bunkering operation when the liquefied natural gas-fueled cement tanker Ireland called at the port.

Ireland bunkered LNG via a truck-to-ship method, while it unloaded cement at Cementa’s facility.

The Bunkering operation was carried out by CMP in cooperation with LNG supplier Skangas and Cementa, the port said in a statement.

“Iceland was provided with LNG via two tanker lorries on the quayside,” CMP’s terminal manager Emil Nordström said.

He added that CMP is currently evaluating options to enable more types of vessels to bunker LNG at the port. “We might consider bunkering from ships, or we might invest in our own permanent LNG infrastructure in the future,” Nordström said.
