‘Lotos Petrobaltic’ jack-up rig arrives in Poland

An offshore jack-up rig, recently bought by Lotos Petrobaltic from Transocean,  yesterday arrived in Poland after a long journey from West Africa.

The unit was transported to the Baltic aboard the MV Target heavy transportation vessel, owned by Dockwise. The rig, named after its new owner, is Lotos Petrobaltic’s fourth drilling unit. Built in Singapore in 1989, the rig is capable of drilling at water depths of 105 meters.

Zbigniew Paszkowicz, president of LOTOS Petrobaltic S.A said that the rig would begin drilling operations in the Baltic sea upon receiving approval from the Mining Authority. The ‘Lotos Petrobaltic’ jack-up unit is expected to be deployed at the Gotlandia licence area, offshore Poland. Drilling operations are scheduled to begin in March.  

Lotos Petrobaltic, the sole company conducting hydrocarbon exploration and production work in the Polish zone of the Baltic Sea, said it would use the rig to drill fifteen wells, plus extensive workover operations.

The company also said that, if its exploration efforts turn out to be successful, it will not hesitate to expand its fleet with more offshore rigs.
