LR completes LNG carrier project with Hanjin Heavy

Lloyd’s Register has completed a joint project with Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction to develop a 30,000 cbm LNG carrier design with bilobe type C tanks.

“LR and HHIC developed the small-scale LNG carrier concept that has improved environmental aspects, a higher level of energy efficiency and improved cargo capacity,” a statement by the two companies reads.

The bilobe type C cargo tank technology prepares the vessel for future LNG trading patterns in the coastal waters, Lloyd’s Register said.

Lee Cha-Soo, Senior vice president of Ship Sales Engineering Team of HHIC, added that the bilobe type 30,000 cbm LNG carrier utilises existing technology which can be applied to existing and new vessels.
